Engine Room Data Reporting on OSG Fleet
Datatrac Limited, a Systems Integration Company formed in 2001, today announced that Overseas Shipholding Group, Inc. (NYSE:OSG) has purchased two innovative systems from Datatrac Limited; one to allow the generation of engine room logs electronically (EERL), another, Envirotrac, to track the integrity of the vessel waste stream systems. These applications have been developed by Datatrac Limited, a company based in the UK and these systems are now being installed across the OSG Fleet.
- The EERL system reduces the paperwork associated with traditional handling of engine room logs; digital data is collected in a PDA, data entry is timed and PIN secured and the data is displayed on a web site.
- The initiative has been implemented with Flag State Approvals and provides data for trend analysis in addition to transparency and archiving.
- The system on board the vessel provides for a paper-free capture of data into rugged, hand held readers. These operate in association with eTags, fixed within the engine room; touching these cue the user to relevant questions and then provide the screen for answers.
- Envirotrac allows efficient monitoring, recording and audit of environmental tags. Vessels have environmental tags fitted to waste handling pipe work, associated valves and flanges ensuring integrity of the system.
- Results from both systems are displayed on a hosted web site where the data can be viewed by OSG.
The system has been extensively tested over a 12 month period and has proved its worth to vessels and the shore office. Technical Superintendents and Chief Engineers value its ability to carry out trending on data. Engine room staff find it helpful because it is simple to operate and takes less time to collect and log data; it also provides alarms on data which is out of acceptable ranges.
Datatrac Limited is a company specialising in systems to capture electronic data in seagoing vessels. The systems remove paper work and remove the need for typing into computers. Data are captured into digital format in situ and once only. The system enables population of documents, reports and port entry documents from the logged data.
